Cancer Research UK (CRUK) is the world’s leading independent charity dedicated to cancer research, but its valuable work is funded almost entirely by donations from the general public. To maximise this crucial revenue stream, the charity turned to Valldata, with the resulting partnership now in its twelfth year of delivering tangible results and significant cost efficiencies.
Going strong since 2006
The CRUK and Valldata relationship first began in 2006, with the company more recently experiencing success with a re-tender for services in 2016. Mark Smith, Supporter Payments Senior Manager at CRUK, highlighted Valldata’s sector knowledge and insight as key factors in the decision to renew its services: “We stayed with Valldata because they understand our business and the charity sector. They appreciate our needs and recognise where we need extra support.”
A partnership approach
Valldata currently provides response management and raffle services support to CRUK, handling in excess of 35 mailing campaigns each year. Its relationship with the charity serves as a perfect example of Valldata’s long-term approach, as Mark Smith, commented: “We’re increasingly becoming strategic partners rather than just a client and supplier relationship. The fact that we know how much they value their commitment to best practice and industry regulation gives us extra peace of mind.”
A key benefit of this proactive partnership approach for CRUK is considerable cost efficiencies, with Valldata consistently delivering savings across each quarter. Mark Smith, shares his first-hand experience: “Our close relationship has meant that theValldata team is always trying to provide a model which allows us to put as much money as we can into our research. They have worked closely with us to implement a number of cost saving initiatives, enabling us to make thousands of pounds in savings since we signed our new contract. It’s rare for a supplier to say ‘you’ll be able to pay us less if you do this’ but Valldata does this.”
Valldata’s dedicated account and service management team also helps to ensure that CRUK achieves best practice in all areas of its supporter payments. “The team will regularly go through suggestions for improvement with us” said Mark. “They’ve given us quite a few good ideas and, if we postpone a decision on something for the future, they’ll always bring it up again as arranged. This level of attention to detail is really useful for our large and busy charity.”
Producing real results
Valldata’s commitment to excellence is reflected in a host of successful results and achievements. Since the relationship began in 2006, Valldata is very proud to have processed 2.3 million one-off donations to a value of £46million, raffle ticket sales to the value of £4.7million and over one million regular gifts. Over the last four years, 99% of donations have been banked within target, a consistently high level of service which Valldata is proud to have delivered.
Speaking about the partnership, Account Director at Valldata, Alec Wright, commented: “Working with a client who has clearly-defined objectives is a distinct advantage, enabling us not only to align our services with their key strategic requirements, but also to deliver these within an environment of consistently outstanding levels of service.”
A bright future
With twelve years’ experience of successfully working in partnership with Valldata, CRUK is proud to recommend the company’s services to others within the sector, as Mark Smith, explained: “I’m really happy with Valldata’s services - I would, and I do, recommend them to other companies within the charity sector. Valldata’s proactive partnership approach and understanding of our sector has really helped us put more money back into what we’re here for – research into saving lives.”
“Valldata is enormously proud of the relationship it has developed with CRUK and is honoured to be a trusted partner of choice. Our organisations share a mutual passion to excel, an ethos that drives everything we do” concluded Alec Wright. “We love to get involved on a personal level with CRUK, with members of our team regularly taking part in events, from Dryathlon and Sky-diving to Race for Life and Stand Up To Cancer, all helping to contribute to CRUK’s vital work and importantly enabling us a deeper understanding of the campaigns and the donor experience.”
